I just got out of it and, I gotta say, it was goooooood.

For real though, I greatly enjoyed this movie. It feels like they took Undercover Brother and played it more seriously.

Cast list is Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, and Teyonna Paris. Synopsis is this: A drug dealer finds out he’s a clone and teams up with a pimp and a hooker to solve a mystery.

This movie is good.

It's the same basic premise of Undercover Brother - a conspiracy is manipulating the stereotypically negative parts of the black community in order to drug black people into acting more stereotypical and remaining ignorant of their problems - but it's a lot better done. The main trio is really good.

Fun fact: I happened to be watching this with my parents, who confirmed that the joke about the "Pimp of the Year" award Slick claims to have won used to be an actual thing in certain communities in the 70's.

Really liked this. I will say there's probably a lot to read into with the true villain being a well-intentioned Boomerang Bigot black guy trying to "save" black America by turning it white in a disturbingly literal sense. That line about assimilation being preferable to submission was chilling.

Double-post, I know, but I'm rewatching and already noticing a lot more care and attention went into things than on a first viewing, strong Rewatch Bonus aspects. One Freeze-Frame Bonus I noticed — Fontaine's preferred booze is 40oz bottles of Anaconda Malt Liquor!
